Summer 2010

Mid July we left Abu Dhabi for Europe. We first spent 10 days in London to meet Inácia's new cousin, Sebastao, a lovely little guy. She enjoyed the baby but couldn't understand why he was not playing with her just yet. From there we went to Vorarlberg, in Austria. My sister, Esben and Anton came as well from Singapore as did Marlene, my cousin, and her family from Munich, Ilse, my aunt, Franz and Marie-Louise as well as my parents from Vienna. We also spent time with
Werner and Wilma, my uncle, Irmgard and Ecke, my aunt and more friends. Unfortunately, the weather was mediocre and the many hikes we had planed were reduced to only a few, including was really tough one to the Eisentaler Spitzen (2753m).

On the 15th of August, Anton was baptised in Lech and we feasted in the Rud-Alpe, dear to our family! It was a lovely day despite the rain and the hale (!).
Inácia had a wonderful time with the whole family from both sides and made enormous progress: she walked her first steps in Regent's Park and learned to clap, send kisses and was a pure joy.

Petite parisienne

In May and June, while Miguel was teaching in Fontainebleau, Inácia discovered Paris. We faced the rather cool and rainy weather, enjoyed some sunshine, visited museums, walked a lot in the old, beautiful streets of the centre, stayed a few days with uncle Gilles and had a wonderful time.
Inácia was very interested in the Lucian Freud paintings we saw at Pompidou with Miguel and commented the exhibition thoroughly, delighting the other visitors :-)

Dives, Mal-dives!

For Miguel's birthday, we took a first family vacation to a dream destination: the Maldives. We chose a resort with good baby sitting facilities so we also were able to dive every other day. Diving there is really wonderful, by far the most beautiful coral I have seen. We saw sharks, manta rays, eagle rays, angel, butterfly, clown, puffer, coffer, soldier, star fish as well as tuna, barracuda and turtles. It was great to be back under water! When we were not diving, we were resting and enjoying family time. Inácia turned out to be a real little fish both in the pool and in the sea and we hope we can take her again to such ream destinations!

Yas

Last week end, we made a family excursion to Yas island. Just off down town, this island is being developed with the Formula 1 circuit, Ferrari world, golf courses, etc.
A race was going on, the engines roaring, the cars speeding by and after we admired the architecture of the glamoro
us Yas hotel, we sipped a tea while Inácia w
as making friends with all the employees. It's sensational how she conquers hearts in no time! The stunning place also gave Miguel the opportunity to work on his photography skills: looking very professional to me.

Dunes, dunes, dunes

After the archeological visit, we did not want to drive straight back over the freeway so we went into the desert... and had a great time. The location was easy, especially because of the children but Miguel hit some hard dunes and... Inacia loved it! We pick-nicked at Fossil Rock, overseeing the desert with dunes as far as the eye could reach, drove through parts of the desert that the heavy December rains had left green and hope to go back very soon for an overnight excursion. Inacia is now a real local!
