BBQ-season launch

As temperatures lower, the BBQ season is back!

From the left: Thomas, Thorsten, Tobi, Stephan (trying to light the torch), Carlos, Klaudia

The season was launched on the 17th on Jebel Ali's vast and empty beach. With a bunch of German / Austrian and one Indian friend, we enjoyed the sunset, the delicious food, a lot of fun and a performance by our local Chipendales!

Aren't they cute??!!! From the left:

A great evening! Thanks to the organisers! When is the next one??

Good stuff

Friday the 16th was "Clean-up Arabia" - day. Not only did I get a chance to dive, but I also had the feeling to do something good and met nice poeple (colleagues of my friend Elodie we realised...!!).

The day started with an hour-long dive in Shark Island Bay. My buddy Mehesh and me found plastic bottles, cans, wires, plastic cups ... What on earth (in sea) is all that trash doing there???

We were also luck enough to spot three turtles (!!) , among them a real big one (more than 1 m long!). We left our "duty" for a few minutes to swim with him: have you ever been pulled by a turtle?? :-)

Proud of ourselves, we indulged in a good lunch before watching the beach volley-ball tournament. A great Friday, where you also get the feeling of doing something good!

Divine surprise

Even if it's already a while ago, I am still filled with one of the first visit: Stephanie and Jonathan came to spend a week!

Here with some friends (Elodie and Olivier are visible) in a wadi between Dibba and Ras al Khayma

The programme was very easy: NONE! Above all, I wanted to show them "my" world: house, office, habits (if any), friends, places.
Naturally, we went diving - Khorfakan - and they also explored the west-coast underwater life. I hope they place a comment here. Unfortunately for the visibility, it is plancton season. On the other hand, the water temperature allows to dive without wetsuit (!!) and attracts a marvelous and very varied fauna. But hold on ... plancton ... do you know the biggest plancton eater?? We met him, swam with him, rode him ... here is his picture.

I know, it's crazy!

We couldn't believe it ourselves!!!

On this picture, it's not very clear, but we are the two on the very left. Jonathan was our reporter.

I was only a baby but already 7 meters long (!!!) and we were in the water with an environmental organisation of the U.A.E.

Why?

Introduced to the wonders of the blog-world by a dear friend, I have decided to try it out myself. So on these pages, I will tell you about my life here in Dubai, about living in an Arabic country as a woman, about what can be done here - and hopefully attract some of you to visit.
This blog does in no way replace the email correspondance, it is an addition, hopefully an enjoyable one.

Willkommen! Welcome! Bienvenue!

I had a real dilemma when chosing the language to use. English is a compromise but I think some other languages will slip in from time to time ...
